About Bristol Samba

Bristol Samba was founded as the Bristol School of Samba in 1986 and we have developed our presence ever since into this well-established popular community band. We engage expert tutors to develop the talents of our members in rhythm and in dance.

Many former members of Bristol Samba have gone on to form Brazilian music groups over the years, and have helped establish the popularity of samba and other Brazilian styles in the UK.  Today, Bristol Samba play traditional Brazilian Carnaval music including samba reggae, Afoxe, and other Latin American inspired and more contemporary rhythms, all complemented by our beautiful and energetic troupe of samba dancers.

Over the years Bristol Samba has evolved into the band that we are today. One huge change happened in October 2015 when Bristol Samba became a registered charity. The aim of the band (as stated in the constitution) is:

... to advance, improve, develop and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music in all its aspects by any means the trustees see fit, including through the presentation of public concerts and recitals.

Bristol Samba has become a fixture of many summer events in and around Bristol over the years, including St Paul's Carnival, St Werburgh's Farm Fair and numerous high-profile festivals, carnivals and fundraisers. We are also available for hire for private functions, corporate events, weddings and parties.
